A Placemaking Journal
Eagle Ranch | Windermere, British Columbia
A place of great diversity, the Eagle Ranch Master Plan offers a range of opportunities from the active Village, to the quiet retreat of the Sanctuary, to the relaxed atmosphere of the Settlement’s golf neighborhood — all within arms reach of recreational and leisure activities.
Under the banner of the Civic Design Group, PlaceMakers principal Geoff Dyer prepared a neighborhood design and master plan for the resort community on 400 acres within the Columbia Valley. PlaceMakers continues in an ongoing detailed design and implementation role, and fulfills a regulatory role as Master Planner, representing the developer on design and aesthetic issues.
The plan takes advantage of the existing landscape to maximize river valley and mountain views within an authentic village setting. A diverse range of building and lot configurations organized around rich public spaces provide a distinctly unique environment in the project’s three distinct neighbourhoods.
The project incorporates a comprehensive sustainability strategy that includes sustainable urbanism through its walkability and mixed-use design, green infrastructure such as geothermal heating and stormwater BMPs, wildlife movement corridors, and green building techniques.
